I’ve never met a male Kpop fan in real life who listens to boy groups except for BigBang. All male fans I’ve met mainly listen to girl groups.

When I was in school, the male Kpop fans I knew only listened to and stanned girl groups, with the exception of BigBang. The female students listened to both ggs and bgs but most of them were hardcore bg stans and only casual listeners of ggs.

Whenever the female students talked about Kpop, 90% of the convo was about male idols. My female schoolmates, seniors, classmates, and juniors alike would talk about wanting to date or marry their oppas. They talk more about how handsome their favs were than about the music itself.

I even had a schoolmate who said she would get plastic surgery to become prettier for her fav bg. Despite not being rich, many of the female Kpop fans I knew spent most of their money on bg merch and pcs.

I’m a woman but I’ve never been interested in bgs. I wasn’t interested in them back then, I’m not interested in them now, and I don’t see myself ever becoming a bg stan.

Why I don’t stan bgs:

  1. I’ve tried listening to bg music but I haven’t found any song that clicks with me. I also prefer female vocals voices.

  2. Ggs tend to have better merch and digital cover designs. Most bg merch doesn’t appeal to me visually and almost all bg digital covers look boring.

  3. I’m not a fan of the romantic parasocial marketing and fanservice that many bgs do. I’m not saying ggs don’t fuel parasocial relationships too but it’s much more common in bgs.

  4. I prefer fandoms that are more mixed. Most bg fandoms are female-dominated while gg fandoms can be male-dominated, female-dominated or balanced.

Are most bg stans on Reddit female?
