It’s weird when fans associate european culture with the valid natural reluctance to become an idol

Even if somebody was born in the actual SM building, that doesn’t mean idol life is their calling. With certain european global-group idols leaving their groups (/ on hiatus), I keep seeing “they’re from europe, over there their work culture is different”, which is true, but it has little to do with the specific demans of being an idol.

It strikes me as a trick to portray asians as workaholics or victims of the idol system, and europeans as enlightened intellectuals who know better and care about their rights.

It’s infantilizing, every career has some degree of sacrifice, and the fact that some are willing to compromise for their dreams doesn’t mean that they need to be saved; and the fact that others won’t compromise doesn’t make them Karl Marx.
