Korean gift etiquette/culture: What gifts should I bring for my good Korean friend and her family hosting me in Busan? ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ท

Hello there!

I am going to Busan to visit and spend time with my friend. We have been good friends for 5+ years and she has always insisted I visit one day so this summer I am! I have never been to Korea before so I am trying my best to learn at least a surface level understanding of the language and culture. She and her parents have invited me to stay with them during my stay. I am from Vancouver and we are both university students (at the same university) but she is one year younger than me.

I also come from a culture of bringing gifts when visiting someone’s home (especially when they invite you to stay with them like in this situation here) so it was never a question of going empty handed, I just want to know what I should bring. What’s considered a thoughtful “host gift” in Korea? I want to show my appreciation and thanks for doing so much for me. Any suggestions would be super appreciated! ๐Ÿซถ If anyone knows big no-nos that would also be great as I do not want to be disrespectful.

Thank you so much for the help! ๐Ÿฉท
