This is the first time that a group from a small company has blow up in a viral phenomenon just short of the standard rookie award season window (November previous year – October present year).
RESCENE debuted in 2024 and blew up earlier this year. Realistically I think they have a good shot at the Best New Artists Awards at MAMA, MMA, GDA, KMA and all the other big award shows this year. They’ve never been nominated in those categories before so I don’t think they were on these award shows radar.
Usually outside of a year rookie groups don’t get nominated for Best New Artist awards but this is the first time a group has become popular just shy of their rookie window in which 2 years from debut a group is considered a rookie group. There’s technically no rule against nominating a group outside of the year they debuted but award shows have an eligibility period for which releases can be considered for nomination.
I think RESCENE being from a small company should warrant them some grace and allow them to be nominated. Especially since there’s no popular rookie groups that debuted this year, RESCENE could help increase the domestic viewership of these shows. I don’t know if it’d be fair though what do we think?
