Basically I lost track of kpop for a few years (I simply don’t invest time on it anymore except for casually listening to new releases I like), so I mostly miss every comeback now since like maybe 2022- 2023. Which also means that it’s been 3 years since I’ve seen anything related to some idols and some groups I like but don’t actively follow. And girl…
Some idols are simply unrecognizable. They look like a whole different person and almost no trace of the faces I knew when I actively consumed kpop content (2020-2023). Two of those cases are Red Velvet’s Wendy and IVE’s Liz. I see many similarities between them unfortunately. Both have been called “ugly” or the “visual whole” by media, and Liz specifically has been body shamed since she debuted. I think this plays a fundamental role to their current decisions.
Let’s be real, both of them prolly had heavy plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures, and are EXTREMELY thin. Like I said, kind of returning into kpop I barely recognized them. And I feel so bad for them. It’s not that they look bad at all, it’s just that they simply lost their natural features and authenticity. Also, they are probably very, very insecure and hurt by those comments, and Korea’s unhealthy and extreme beauty standards. Both are very talented and I really hope they’re not just suffering, but I can’t help but see a response to a very harmful pattern..
