And it’s fine to be in an echo chamber as long as you realize you are in one. By participating on kpop reddit I am in an echo chamber too,so this is not me scolding anybody.Internet fandom spaces are largely echo chambers and their opinions and stances often don’t reflect real life. The problem is that people participating in them often can’t tell
For example twitter loathes katseye and they’re convinced they’ll fail miserably everytime they release new music. In real life tho,we’re noticing the polar opposite. They’re clearly the most relevant and successful active girl group at the moment. They debuted on number one on the billboard top 200 with around 175k pure sales which are amongst the most insane numbers the US has seen for girl groups. This is clearly far from the reality twitter presents where nobody seemingly likes them or their music.
Similarly,on reddit they’re trying to convince you that everyone loathes newjeans and no one would listen to them again. The reality is completely different. Get up,a 3 year old album, was the second most streamed kpop gg album this year, just behind blackpink’s deadline. The reality is that the average kpop fan or the average GP member didn’t keep up with this drama not even nearly as much as people here. For every person that actively kept up with it there are 10 who didn’t. Most people just have a general impression that they’re inactive bc of some legal battle with their company. Plus, the average person does not view rebelling against your company to be a bad thing. That’s just reddit.
If they come back and the music is as catchy and worth listening to as their old stuff people will be right back on board.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Artists that fandom spaces hype may be unpopular in real life and artists they hate may be extremely loved in real life,so don’t confuse an echo chambers opinion with the real life consensus
