I can’t stand the it-boy/girl discussions in kpop spaces

Actually, there are two topics that I just hate when they’re brought up – “it boy/girl” and “paving the way”.

The IT boy/girl discussions suck my soul out. It’s a title that truly doesn’t mean much and has such a vague definition that everyone interprets it differently. Me personally, I don’t care who takes the title – it’s not an award, idols don’t earn anything from getting that title. And yet kpop stans fight over it like it’s something so incredibly important. When usually, it serves no other purpose than to upbring your favorite idol with downplaying the other ones. Usually the posts about it look to me like this:

“Here’s my own made up definition of this made up word that serves no other purpose than to create fanwars and hate. Ofc only my favorite idol fits my made up defintion because well – I made it up.”

And that is exactly how I feel about this “paved the way” discussions.

Who 👏 gives 👏 a 👏 shit 👏

People say BTS because they were the first group to truly achieve insane levels of success that go way beyond kpop standards. It’s valid – they’re currently on 15th place of the most streamed artists on Spotify OF ALL TIME. It’s huge, it’s impressive, it deserves recognition.

Other people say no, it’s not BTS, it’s SNSD/BIGBANG, who came before them. It’s valid, yes, but that means they talk about a whole different standard of what the definition of “paving the way” is.

Other people say PSY because “Gangnam Style” still stays as one of the most international hits of all kpop history. It’s valid.

But the truth is none of them are right and all are subtly bringing the other groups down to praise their favorite ones when at the end of the day WHOOO CARESSS OMGGGGGG

You guys fight over whos interpretation of this made up stuff is the most valid, and it sounds so dumb. Of course if you don’t like BTS, you’ll say that they didn’t pave the way, and find some reasons and criteria for it. Of course if you love them, you’ll think it’s obvious that they paved the way for the rest of the groups.

But at the end of the day, none of that matters. It serves no other purpose here than to bring down the achievements of other groups
