Where does the perception that BLACKPINK’s soloists are more successful than BTS’s soloists come from?

I recently came across a comment claiming that Jungkook is the only BTS member who has made as much of an impact as the Blackpink members, and that blackpink members are among the only Kpop soloists who are taken seriously.

It got me wondering where this perception comes from, because when looking at measurable indicators such as album sales, streaming numbers and chart performance, the distinction doesn’t seem nearly as clear-cut.

Obviously, success isn’t limited to numbers. Cultural impact, public recognition, longevity and influence outside of music also matter. But I find it interesting how confidently people make these comparisons without necessarily explaining which metrics they’re using.

Is the perception largely influenced by blackpink’s individual visibility, branding and mainstream recognition? Or are there specific commercial achievements that support the argument? I’m genuinely interested in how people arrive at these conclusions, especially since different metrics can paint very different pictures.

What makes people consider one group’s solo careers more successful than the other’s? And is there actually a consistent way to measure that?
