Hello, Anyways i think it has come apparent that K-pop now uses lots of Afro beats. Think of “Smart” by LE SSERAFIM or “Tinnitus” by TXT. I want to share my opinions on it and find out more about what other people think.

Afrobeats are called AFrobeats because they originated in Africa and are special to Africans. I think that sometimes K-pop just uses it for clicks (no offense) sometimes to keep up with trends. Which, Afrobeats in my opinion aren’t a trend or should just be used anyhow just because someone want to make a hit song. (No offense again)

Lack of appreciation from it’s origin. We all know East Asia (maybe not all countries but a lot of them) is quite a homogeneous place. Now I’m not saying it’s their faults because I know already that East Asia doesn’t always get lots of exposure to other races. But I think, if you’re going ot use something, don’t just use it because you can, try to appreciate it. Learn about it. Understand it. NOT just take it because it sounds nice and everyone loves to listen to it. That’s like saying everyone can just use K-pop just because –.

In my opinion (you don’t have to agree) K-pop is special and unique and everyone in the industry are so talented but K-pop sometimes i just think are a mixture of Hip-hop. R&B, etc. Respectfully, anything that is just built of of other things is not really a genre of it’s own. No offense, I apologize in advance.

Loss of culture or history. Lets be honest. If every country just started using Afrobeats and blending into their own genre (let alone changing the genre name to their own) then it wouldn’t be special anymore. Well it would be special but it would just be a bit….I don’t know. Afrobeats are for Africans (maybe African Americans i think as well) to share. I am NOT saying no one can explore new sounds but if you aren’t even going to try and understand it and just label it as your own genre then I don’t think you deserve to use it.
Anyways, some may argue “if it sounds good then why criticize other groups?” CULTURAL APPRECIATION I can’t say it enough times. I saw someone say on some post that Smart suits Le Sserafim so why is everyone being dramatic. First up, it’s not being dramatic questioning why a culture’s genre is being used by people who sometimes don’t even care about it’s history. Just clicks and views. (I know not every artist is like this though but the majority is). At this point if everyone used K-pop it owuldn’t really be “K-pop” anymore. It wouldn’t be exciting anymore if everyone used K-pop plus I know everyone owuld feel robbed. That’s what i’m saying. Also I don’t like double standards and personally I don’t feel great about afrobeats being used. For a long time, K-pop has just been K-pop. Special to East Asia (specifically Korea) and I just don’t see the point in using other genres. If you like the music then go to listen to it. Listen to the original artists. Don’t just cram it into your genre because it sounds nice.
