I need some tips on how to let go of a group I used to really like. It makes me feel sad and upset to see them struggling with simple things that used to come easily to them—but I find it hard to let go, and I always end up checking in on what they’re doing.
I used to follow this group, but then they split in two: some kept the original name, while the others formed a new group. I wanted to follow both, but I hadn’t considered that thousands of other fans and fanbases wouldn’t support both—and that really affected me. Back then, I was very active on social media, and the fandom was super chill; now, the two sides just hurl insults at each other and at the members themselves. Honestly, that doesn’t bother me as much anymore—I even went through a phase where I muted all their content—but lately, it’s all starting to resurface.
Another thing that hurts is seeing them “flop” (please don’t give me a whole paragraph arguing that they aren’t—you know as well as I do that they are; their sales, streams, and engagement just aren’t what they used to be for either group). It’s painful to watch them get excited about having a “hit,” only for the chart numbers to be embarrassing.
On top of that, I find it incredibly difficult to actually finish watching their content—for both groups. I don’t know, the comedy and the overall vibe just don’t resonate with me anymore. I’m not a fan of their music either; it’s just typical “boy group” stuff—that whole “oh, look how cool we are” vibe. Despite all this, I still find myself missing them and checking in on what they’re up to. I really don’t want to keep doing this, but I don’t know how to stop. Please, give me some tips, I want to move on and put them behind me for good. I think it’s a bit difficult for me to let them go because they were my first K-pop group. I’ve tried checking out other groups, like IVE and TWS—and even though their music is much better, and they’re more famous and more beloved—I still can’t fully commit to stanning them. What should I do?
