I got a Kocowa subscription and it has like 9 years worth of Inkigayo, Music Bank, Music Core, and Show Champion episodes. So I threw a dart at a dart board and picked Inkigayo. I thought it would be a fun project to watch all inkigayo episodes starting at the beginning of 4th gen. I’m up to Aug. 2018.
I thought it would be just a fun casual thing immersing myself in what kpop was like at the start of a new gen. I was not expecting one group to grab my attention so completely. I have become hyper fixated with IN2IT.
It all started with their first comeback Snapshot. The song and choreo was just so good. The song is about a runway fashion model diva being a runway fashion model diva. And the choreo has them flip between being the runway model doing vogue poses or being the paparazzi/photographers taking the “snapshots”.
As I looked more into them I found out they were formed from a survival show from hell called Boys24. The show had seasons. Season 1 narrowed down the contestants to 24 hence the title except they added 4 back making it 28. Then those 28 had to perform theater shows FOR A WHOLE YEAR. They did 260 concerts in total. After that was Season 2 called Boys24 Semi-Finals and then the final episode where they finally revealed the 9 winners but really 8 cause one dipped out immediately. They had 4 solid releases during their rookie years and then after 2 years their company dropped them. They tried to continue independent with some Japanese releases but COVID made that close to impossible for them. So they did their military service from 2020-2022 tried to make a go of it in 2023 rebranding to SKYE and appearing on Peak Time but ultimate called it quits in 2025.
I have so many mixed feelings. Like on the one hand it’s so exciting finding a new group and just diving into their work and music. But on the other hand it’s hard not to feel kind of sad through the whole thing knowing that they didn’t make it. I wish there was more music to their names they are so talented but they only released a total of 16 songs as a group.
Have any of you gotten into an already disbanded group? Did it make you at all sad knowing they had disbanded already? How did you manage this mix of feelings?
