Now that I’m following K-pop more closely, I’ve started noticing something interesting.
HYBE’s new group Tude debuted today, but even before their debut, when the group was first introduced and the teasers came out, I already saw so many people following them, making fan accounts, praising the members, and talking about them like they were already idols.
Of course, some of that makes sense. For example, TWICE fans are naturally going to be interested in Jihyo’s sister after her debut because there’s already an existing connection and fandom interest.
But I’m talking about something else. How can someone already have a dedicated fan account for a group immediately after the lineup is announced? How are people already calling themselves fans and heavily praising the members when they haven’t even debuted, performed on stage, or shown much of what they can actually do yet?
At first, I genuinely wondered how these fandoms grew so quickly. But the more I observe K-pop marketing, the more I feel like this might actually be part of the company’s strategy. I will not say all but most of the account is created my company itself to create hype.😭😭
