I was one of the many fans of hers in Korea. She was kind of the Korean Sofia Vergara. She somehow turned her lack of Korean fluency into humor. She was just as hilarious to Koreans as Sofia is to Americans. Yeah, she was a little too rough around the edges for the Korean public at first, being a rapper from New York, but she def softened up and was able to find a nice balance.
And then the whole scandal happened.
I think most Koreans were simply disappointed in her. Many people criticized her for abandoning a minor fan while he was being beaten up. But honestly, I don’t even know what they expected her to do to stop the two large men who were in a rage. She’s a very thin woman. However, it’s true that she didn’t call the police. Also people were shocked that she associated with people who would assault a kid for no reason. It was later reported that she went out drinking with her friends right after the incident.
The accusation from years earlier that she and her friends assaulted a woman didn’t help either, even though she was cleared of all charges due to a lack of evidence like CCTV footage.
I’m curious what international fans think about the whole debacle and how it was handled in Korea. Do you think Jessi was treated fairly or unfairly?
