So I was watching Black Mirror, and there’s an episode where a woman brings her husband back from the dead in the form of a chatbot which takes in videos, chats, posts etc to form his personality. Now what’s interesting is that the show was released years ago and reminded me of how people use AIs like ChatGPT today
Now, as fans of K-pop, we also know that its parasocial and many of our idols do use AI despite fan complaints. So when watching that episode, I thought a K-pop company “could do that with their idols and make bank”, then I thought, “How would they train the model?” but instead of having the idol record voices, there are literally thousands of hours of vlogs, interviews, press releases, bubble messages, and variety content for each model to train an AI model on. And many idols play personas or exaggerate stuff, so these AI models would be based on them, not the actual idol’s thoughts. Now this is dystopian and could be possible in the near future.
I heard Korea is much more pro-AI than us in the west, not sure how true this is, so I’m unsure if its possible now because personalised chatbots are deffo a thing, but its deffo something that could happen, and it’s very scary because fans would deffo use it. What do you guys think?
