Do students in other countries also suffer from learning their language's ancient/medieval form for exams?

Hi, I was studying for my college entrance exams in Korea and suddenly got curious.

In Korean class, we have to memorize Middle Korean grammar (like ancient honorific suffixes) and ancient poems written in Idu (where Chinese characters are used just for their sounds, making it look like absolute alien hieroglyphs).

Do native English speakers (or people from other countries) also have to learn things like Old/Middle language just to pass exams? Or is this a universal student torture method?

+ Heard that Classical Japanese (Kobun / Bungo) is also notoriously hard for Japanese students
