I used to stan this Kpop group A. I was there from the beginning, deeply invested, actively participating in fan spaces. But somewhere along the way, I realised that I just couldn’t align with the fandom anymore. The entire fan space gradually became so exhausting and toxic, with endless arguments, constant infighting, fanwars with other fandoms and within the fandom.
I know that, at the end of the day, I’m here for the group not the fans. But I won’t pretend that the fandom experience doesn’t affect how I feel about being a fan. Sometimes, the negativity becomes so overwhelming that it overshadows the very reason you fell in love with the group in the first place.
And honestly, there are moments when I wish I had never come across this group at all.I wish I could have kept the beautiful feelings I had when I first discovered them without having so many exhausting experiences attached to those memories. It’s such a bittersweet feeling when something that once brought you so much happiness eventually becomes associated with so much sadness.It’s a strange kind of sadness when you don’t necessarily want to stop loving something.
