I think we’ve all heard of the NCT Dream situation with their k-fans being pissed that the group was not in Korea during the day of release, because they were on tour at the time. As we know, touring is a very time consuming endeavor. Within NCT though, only Dream has gone on tours that could really be considered full fledged world tours. 127 only really do Asia + US. Wayv have only done 1 real tour and they only went to Asia, and Wish also seem to only be doing Japan + Korea.
The thing is, with the way kpop functions, you just cannot have a good long tour. On tour, only the people in the show get to see and be entertained by the group, but fans require constant content and the groups needs to also stay within the visibility of the GP by doing variety shows and stuff. Groups generally also have 2 comebacks a year. A comeback means there is a huge flood of content that needs to be prepared. For dream, there’s this thing called Dream vs Dream they do during comebacks. For their previous comeback they did a special set-up while they shot their concept trailer. But this time it was literally done in the cars they were waiting in while they shot the MV. They literally have no time to do anything.
I looked up tour stats for some groups, and was surprised to see just how many were under 25 shows. But that’s all their schedule allows them to do. One cannot have their cake and eat it too. Dream had a good drawn tour, but the compromise was that the comeback would be lowkey.
But this won’t satisfy the fans really now, will it? i-fans went on about how stupid k-fans were to demand so much of them, but if Dream had compromised and done a proper comeback, would they have been okay with less dates? Because that’s what 127 did at their peak(nowadays they don’t get proper comebacks or tours because SM believes in equality💚) and I’ve seen a lot of complaining there too.
It made me wonder, why don’t they just break tours into two or more legs? Taylor Swift usually releases a new album(brand new, not a re-recording) every two years. Her recent Eras tour was on going when she released a new album, so she took a little break to promote the new album, then just added those new songs to the tour and continued on. I’ve seen that with txt, they’ll start a new tour between 2 comebacks and then hit the same places again. Why not just… continue the tour?
Like usually txt’ll do Korea > Japan > SEA > USA, then be back home to do a new comeback, then a break, or go on another tour with the same plan. Instead the can do comeback > SK > JPN > SEA > comeback > USA > Canada > Europe > encore in SK. The second leg in the west can cut some songs from the setlist and add in the new songs from the ep. The SK shows can be broadcasted online so people can get a taste of both setlists. The 1st cb can be focused on Asia targeted marketing, while the 2nd cb has Western promo with English songs in the ep. This way they can do proper comeback cycles for both cbs in Korea, then globe trot around on tour. Because the shows will be properly spaced out, they’d get time to record extra content for variety in between as well as take proper rest instead of running off to the next schedule.
