collecting albums is honestly kind of a scam

okay so ive been a kpop fan for like 6 years and ive been collecting albums since around 2021. i stopped collecting around the end of 2024 and i own like 50 albums, and looking back now i lowkey think kpop albums are kinda a scam

1: you spend like $25-30 on an album, spend 5-10 minutes unboxing it, and then it just sits on your shelf forever collecting dust

2: i genuinely couldve saved hundreds of dollars if i just didnt buy albums 😭 like i love kpop but there are so many other things i couldve spent that money
on

3: i feel like the amount of versions they make is kinda exploitative too. like why does one album need 10+ versions 😭 they know collectors are gonna feel like they need every version, especially when some have different photocards or other exclusive inclusions

4: collecting multiple groups is also stressful asf. if one group has a comeback and then another group has a comeback a week later, id feel like i needed to buy both even if i didnt actually want the albums that badly

5: and honestly a lot of people mostly buy albums for the photocards anyway. if thats the only thing you care about, you could literally just buy the photocard secondhand instead of spending $30 on an entire album

obviously theres nothing wrong with collecting if you genuinely enjoy it, but once i stopped collecting i realized how much money i was spending on something that i barely interacted with after opening it
