Disclaimer: I know that it seems a little late to be still talking about the article due to the fact that it was posted Sunday, but I had still wanted to give my opinion about it now after looking over it again. I had meant to post it yesterday, but I had wanted to focus on my studies and work, so I had decided to post it today.
So recently, BBC had released an article going over Bigbang’s legacy after the group’s performance in London. In the title, they had mentioned BTS and Blackpink and had given a rundown of Bigbang’s accolades before the global success of BTS and Blackpink. When I had first read the article, I had felt that it was disrespectful to mention other big groups in K-pop when the article is about them and their legacy. I had even made a post which is now deleted on here talking about some of the things I did not like about the article. Now when I look at it, I admit that I was wrong to jump to conclusions about the article as the BBC is targeted towards general audiences and those audiences are more familiar with BTS and Blackpink than with Bigbang.
The BBC doing this was a way to get people to know more about Bigbang and who they were before the global rise of BTS and Blackpink. Using BTS and Blackpink’s names was a way to attract general audiences who don’t know K-pop which would make them check out Bigbang and their impact on K-pop. Like I said, I had first thought that it was disrespectful to mention BTS and Blackpink when the article focuses on Bigbang and their legacy in K-pop. However, after I had seen the article again, I understood their intention to include both groups in the title and inside of the article. All in all, I admit to my mistake in jumping into conclusions rather than understanding the intention and the full story.
