Why there are so many kpop awards show nowadays ?

First of all, I’m not exactly new to Kpop fandoms. Maybe I’ve just been around long enough to remember when award shows actually felt like award shows.

I understand that Kpop has always had more award ceremonies than most music industries, but it feels like there’s practically a new award show every other month. As a multistan, I used to look forward to MAMA, MMA, GDA, AAA, etc. for the big performances, unexpected interactions, seeing who would show up, and most importantly, wondering who is actually going to win.

Award ceremonies exist everywhere in entertainment. When someone wins one of those major awards, there’s usually an actual sense of anticipation and prestige attached to it.

Kpop used to have that feeling too. When a group won a Daesang, even if they weren’t your favourite, you could still genuinely feel the weight of that moment. You understood why it mattered.

Now, though? Sometimes it feels like Daesangs are being handed out like participation trophies as long as you showed up to the ceremony, congratulations, here’s your daesang. It becomes so boring.
