Korean pitcher Go Woo-suk has been designated for assignment by the Minnesota Twins, the latest snag in his quest to stick in Major League Baseball (MLB) The Twins made the move Friday (local time), with Go having been with their Triple-A affiliate, the St. Paul Saints, since late July after a cup of coffee in MLB. Once a player is designated for assignment, he can be traded or placed on irrevocable waivers within seven days. And if the player clears waivers — that is, if no team picks that player from waivers — then the player may be sent outright to the minors or released, becoming a free agent. Since the annual trade deadline has already passed, Go will wait and see if any team will claim him off waivers. Go made his long-awaited MLB debut with the Twins on July 9, more than two years after first moving to the United States by signing with the San Diego Padres. But Go lasted just four games and four innings with the big league club, giving up four earned runs on eight hits, including two home runs.
