kpop idols continuously doing ai music dance trends sucks

just want to start with saying this is not necessarily a hate post, but a frustration post. i am someone who works in the music industry and it’s very disheartening to see kpop idols so actively using ai music for dance trends (and of course other things as well but i would need a whole other post for that). i have many issues with ai, but i think especially ai within creative fields is an issue that needs to be taken more seriously.

my point is really this: if kpop idols want to be respected as artists and creatives, they need to be more educated on the repercussions of using ai music. it really isn’t that difficult to check if the song you are using is ai. to be honest, anyone who works in the music industry should already have the ear to tell if a song is ai without even researching it. usually the vocals will be some soulless and slightly robotic justin bieber knockoff with sloppy production. take the ‘gg ez’ song that like every kpop idol danced to, it might not be so obvious to the average person but i could instantly tell just by the vocal tone.

again though, i don’t want to garner hate to the idols. i know ai is much more normalized in korea (which is unfortunate) and people don’t face repercussions there for using it even in creative fields. its just very disheartening when you see an idol use an ai song, get millions of likes, and no one in the comments even realizes it’s ai and praises them for it. its very important to educate people on this before it goes too far.

and in case i get some people that come in here and give the ‘who cares, ai isn’t going anywhere so just deal with it’ spiel, i know it’s not going anywhere. but using ai in creative fields defeats the whole point. the arts are meant to connect people with human experience; music is supposed to be relatable or at least evoke emotion out of you. how is a soulless ai going to do that when all it does is steal off of other artists work and make shitty caricatures of what a good song is supposed to be? and what will make musicians special if anyone can just put a prompt into ai and call themselves an ‘artist’?

in my honest opinion, music created by ai should be clearly labeled as such, similar to how songs have to be labeled as explicit. but until then, artists, and this includes kpop idols, should be more vigilant about the music they use and promote. anyone who even considers themselves a fan of music and listens to it more than just sound you put on in the background should take this more seriously too if they don’t want the quality of music to nosedive in the next couple of years.
