I’m not sure if it’s actually easier for new groups to win now (given greater exposure to a new generation of kpop fans compared to the past) or if expectations have simply skyrocketed, it feels like every new group is practically required to snag a music show trophy during their rookie era. It’s as if they’re forced to sprint right out of the gate without being allowed to go through a natural growth process. In the past, fans seems more value the journey of a group’s career, and plenty of groups didn’t get their first win until their second year or later, especially those from small to mid-sized company. Then there are the standards regarding “cringe” songs, many kpop stans nowadays act like new groups aren’t allowed to have them, even though cringey lyrics have existed in kpop for ages. Also this isn’t a huge deal, but I’ve noticed it that most new groups seem to have members with uniform height & no drastic variation when they performed ykwim. I don’t know if the company orchestrate this intentionally or what (for example with ILLIT, even though Yunah is the tallest member, the others wear platform shoes during performances so that everyone looks the same height), it looks neat nowadays tho maybe thats the company goals. Compare to back then when the small & tall members have same chance to wear platform shoes & there are more drastic variation of height. Many kpop stans complains about the lack of vocals but for new groups nowadays it seems that the standard for dance skill are way higher now that everyone needs to be equal in terms of dance & everyone needs to be called an all rounder.
Anything else?
