The 민주화운동기념관, or Democracy and Human Rights Memorial Hall, is a museum and memorial in Seoul built around the former 남영동 대공분실, a notorious interrogation center used by South Korea’s military dictatorships to imprison and torture pro-democracy activists Rather than erase the site, it was preserved as a reminder of the brutality faced by democracy activists during one of the darkest periods in modern Korean history.
