NMIXX returns with ‘Heavy Serenade,’ aiming to repeat chart success

K-pop girl group NMIXX is releasing its fifth mini-album “Heavy Serenade” Monday evening, seven months after its first full-length album “Blue Valentine” topped major domestic streaming charts and swept 10 music show wins. The six-track album centers on the theme of love, with the title track written by rising singer-songwriter Hanroro. The song blends electronic music elements — trance, acid and drum and bass — into pop, a genre the group calls “mix pop.” The remaining tracks include “LOUD,” solely written by member Lily, and “Different Girl” and “Superior,” co-written by member Bae. In a written Q&A released through JYP Entertainment, the members described the album’s title as intentional contrast. “People tend to think of ‘heavy’ as a negative emotion, but we wanted to express that the heavier the love, the more important and overwhelming it is,” Lily said.
