My thoughts on LE SSERAFIM’s “Celebration”

this is as a straight guy who listens to all kinds of music. so idk if that changes how you view my perspective.

first I understand that eurodance/EDM/techno is a large genre but I find it at the very least notable that le sserafim is releasing a song of that genre like 2 weeks after katseye released the eurodance song pinky up. parallels to how spaghetti was released after gnarly

two the song is comically short. the single verse is boring although somewhat meaningful and the rest of the song is so insanely repetitive, and all of it is some variation of word + celebrate/celebration

three someone on Reddit said “why are they edging the beat drop” and I completely agree. the beat drop feels jarring in a bad way but even then it’s way too short and leaves no time to get into it and dance.

i feel like it’s fair to compare this to pinky up because of how similar these songs are and somehow pinky up might be slightly better. despite being a similar length it feels a lot more packed and substantive, has longer and less repetitive verses, and a danceable and longer beat drop…though the writing of that song is still horrible overall

in terms of the positives I think the song is still a vibe, and that is what will sell it. the chorus is quite catchy (unlike that of pinky up) and memorable. I haven’t seen the performance video/full choreography yet but I imagine this will be a performance-based song—it feels meaningless to listen to with headphones or audio. if this song had better lyrics and structural changes it would be miles better.

6/10 for me.

not to glaze katseye but katseye did this better and le sserafim is capable of a lot more. this song doesn’t quite show that.
