Today, Enhypen sold out a Brazilian stadium concert, with over 35,000 tickets sold in less than 40 minutes. They also sold out shows in Mexico, Milan, Amsterdam, and Berlin, and are currently close to selling out Paris and London. The Brazilian stadium is the same one that BTS sold out in 2019, when Enhypen’s members were still trainees and now, six years later, they are the main performers. It’s an amazing accomplishment for any group.
The first two weeks after the news of Heeseung leaving the group were announced were very intense and difficult to watch. I’m older than most engenes, so 2 hours after the newa, when my initial shock passed and I processed the information, I felt at peace with it and I assumed the same would happen for others after a couple of days. Unfortunately, it didn’t go as I expected, and seeing things still chaotic weeks later made me question my belief that Enhypen would continue doing well without Heeseung.
In my mind, if even I, who isn’t very active in fandom spaces (except for Reddit) was seeing so much turmoil, then the situation was probably even worse elsewhere. So, i started to doubt my initial conclusion and wondered if the news might have been a blow the group wouldn’t recover from. Today, though, I reassured myself that logic prevails, and that people were right in saying that those creating the noise are just a loud minority. They don’t exist outside the internet.
Enhypen will continue to do well, and Heeseung will also be fine. And if everything ends with the six members and Heeseung renewing their contracts with Belift, as I expect, them to do, congratulations to Belift for correctly predicting that the kpop industry and market have room for innovation in the way groups can be managed by allowing individuality instead of repressing it and loosing an asset after the initial 7 years.
