One infuriating thing about the K-Pop fandom is that it will not engage in controversies with good faith. And a general way of deflection I’ve seen is strawman arguments.
I’ll use the most infuriatingly common example- death threats. You could tell someone that a certain idol did something wrong and deserved criticism for it and they would respond with, “well do you think they deserved death threats over the controversy?” No I do not. That doesn’t make criticism invalid and it’s a completely irrelevant strawman when 99% of the backlash an idol has been receiving has been for valid reasons. You ask these people to pull up proof of supposed death threats and they’ll come up with random ragebait tweets with three likes.
It’s rarely brought up when it’s relevant to the conversation and generally serves as a way to guilt trip the other person into feeling bad for not backing off from their criticism. I’m tired and I don’t know how many more “I obviously don’t support that but”-s I have left in me.
