this is kind of referencing a now-deleted post talking about this being a “big year for kpop” cuz of the bts and blackpink tours or something, and how they’re about to save the industry cuz other groups will get some popularity from this, and is why older groups are scrambling to make comebacks. besides the last part being just completely made up, i understand the sentiment of being excited for a comeback and it changing your year for the better, but i struggle with understanding how people are able to convince themselves that a comeback will change how EVERYONE’s year is going lol, or act like their standards are objective.
like there’s times when fans come across like “kpop” is the s&p500 and bts is the equivalent of microsoft while blackponk is apple and skz is nvidia and they’ve invested millions into it. they’re so metric and stats obsessed, as if it personally benefits them financially for groups to top certain charts or do better than others in some way. doesn’t it get tiring,, like don’t you feel worn out ? i remember people talking about how badly 2025 sucked for kpop (i think maybe aespa’s comebacks didn’t hit and they used that as the end-all-be-all),, meanwhile i was over here having a BLAST like the amount of stellar debuts we got + the amount of older groups we saw come back ?? i could say the same for 2024 too. and 2023. like at each point i’m looking at completely different groups, cuz they all have their moments. but i can also say there was a stall for me cuz mx are my faves and they finally came back after a long military hiatus,, like technically both things are true at once cuz they’re just opinions,, idk.
again someone else on here was talking about how they’re worried zb1’s numbers will tank now that the 4 yuehua members are leaving and i can’t understand approaching this like they’re a money machine,, aren’t we just supposed to be fans… like be happy they can even stay together in the first place lool. i said something like “that shouldn’t be our concern” like the group will do fine regardless or something cuz the members staying are still ultra talented (side note on zb i’m excited for maknae gunwook idk why lool), but that was quite the unpopular opinion,, most people were speaking about the members with the fanbases that spent the most and bought the most albums and in my mind i’m like how do you guys keep up with all this stuff and yltimately does it really matter… maybe it does.. ?
lastly i’m curious how people that count views and streams so closely even get into new groups at all. do you filter based on certain stats like “top 10 most followed kpop groups” or something? do you ever give smaller groups a chance, like are there any smaller groups that have surprised you or are the exception? else are you just good sticking to one or two groups or one or two companies? i think either is understandable.
but for people looking at a few groups and equate their performance with kpop as a whole or like always compare how those groups are doing in the broader industry, if they stop performing well would you stop listening?
(don’t get me wrong i understand wanting your group to do well or like voting/streaming since i do that for monsta x and zb1,, but like someone on here saying adp blew up a lot last year and that “helped the industry” or like “boosted kpop’s popularity” and then someone else saying the group wasn’t so mainstrean outside of korea so it doesn’t matter so much, like on both ends, how are you guys not tired lol)
