Is it appropriate for MAMA to proceed after the recent tragedy?

Just some hours ago, there was a major fire in Hong Kong where 4 high-rise apartments were completely set ablaze. As of now, 36 people have been confirmed dead including fire fighter(s), 29 are hospitalized with 7 in critical condition, and an additional 297 people remain “uncontactable,” presumably trapped on the higher floors. This is the most destructive fire Hong Kong has experienced in three decades, and the authorities have raised the alert level to the highest tier at Level 5.

This is an incredibly tragic event and I can’t even begin to imagine what those affected are feeling right now… Because of this, there have been growing discussions in kpop communities about whether MAMA, which is scheduled to take place in two days, might be cancelled. Personally, I’m leaning toward cancelling or postponing it to a later date if that’s even possible. I just don’t see anything appropriate coming from holding the event as if nothing happened. Even with a moment of silence at the beginning, the image of fans cheering and celebrating so soon after a national catastrophe just doesn’t sit right with me.

If it does get cancelled, it would result in a huge financial loss for MAMA’s organizers, but I still don’t think it’s an appropriate timing for such a celebratory event when there may be hundreds of casualties from the blaze. My prayer goes out to all the ones affected.

What do you all think will happen? Do you think MAMA will proceed as scheduled, or do you expect changes to be made?
