A discussion post about hating or antis. Let’s have a respectful discussion.

I have no particular opinion about any artist really. I prefer the music of some artists but I genuinely don’t have any strong opinions so I hope you take whatever I say as something a random person is saying and not as a particular group stan.

I do understand disliking a celebrity or a person. It’s natural and when people do things that go against our values or likes, it happens. I wouldn’t have anything to say if a person dislikes an artist because of a certain action – especially if it’s unlawful or unethical.

But I think it’s in bad taste when people say they hate a group of people (like how people say they hate ARMYs, or Stays, etc) because that falls under discrimination. There are stereotypes about fan groups,I agree. I think you can dislike certain actions done by the community as whole but the truth of the matter is these are thousands of different (completely different) individuals. It falls into completely bigotry territory when people club an entire group of people and condemn them for obscure things like indirectly supporting zionism or other things in the convoluted way that people connect things.

These people could be office going workers, who just like the music that they’ve heard and just go about their day and sometimes like the artists’ group photos and listen to their music and sometimes comment something nice when a post shows up. We cannot possibly know these people and therefore can’t assume to know enough to put the whole community down.

I think the argument is more nuanced than the way people put it across and hate on artists and their fans. I’m not a stan but even if I was, I would look at these members as humans who have a job. No one is hundred percent likable, but they stay in their field of work as long as their work is profitable. Even if they had a specific image or stance for a movement or political issue, with time things change. People change, priorities change. Everyone including these artists have a job. Sometimes, because we can always see them online, we forget that they are humans. For them their job happens to be making music and making money through public endorsement and appearances. Even in the easiest occupation, people can’t go through their entire lives standing for something or a movement. When we ourselves don’t take the pressure of taking stances, protesting or speaking out about stuff, why should they when it directly impacts their livelihood. We reposting something on our instagram, is not equivalent to them, since that’s their livelihood. We most of the time won’t loose our job because of that. I think it’s peak hypocrisy for us to expect them to maintain a level of imaginary righteousness when we ourselves don’t (in fact nobody does).

If there is something unlawful or something you 100% know that they did wrong, i do think hating on someone makes sense. But for things that you don’t know, when you don’t know what goes behind the scenes, when they are people you don’t know, I’m not sure anybody can make an informed judgement on whether a person is worth hating or not. It just seems like too much effort to hate on someone when they don’t impact your life in anyway. But lol the truth is hating on something as a group is also invigorating. I know the irony in this, that I’m also putting in so much effort to write this post about hating, but there’s just so much hate around these days. Hating on something together, and getting validation from it is a eerily similar feeling to loving something and getting validation from it. That’s probably why I’m on reddit – for that validation. But, let’s just enjoy something that we like. if we moved on from one artist to another, then let’s just move on. what’s the point of hating.

Lol, I’m sorry about my rant. I’m up for a constructive debate because this is an interesting discussion. I’m completely open to changing my mind!
