For those unfamiliar with the terminology, prerecorded vocals are essentially vocals recorded beforehand specifically to mimic a live performance.
I’ve been seeing a lot of mixed opinions on prerecorded vocals lately, but I think they mainly come down to two arguments.
Argument A: It’s acceptable because everyone else in the industry uses them as well and that it’s “humanly impossible” to hold a full Kpop concert without relying on it
Argument B: Prerecorded vocals have no place at a concert, or anywhere else because it’s disrespectful to the concert or live show attendees.
Every time a group gets caught lipsyncing to prerecorded vocals, it seems to cause quite a stir in the Kpop sphere. Lipsyncing to prerecorded vocals is something that has existed for a long time, but it also feels like it has become increasingly prevalent with newer generations of Kpop.
Do you think prerecorded vocals ever have a justifiable place in a concert setting, or anywhere else for that matter? Feel free to share your opinion. It doesn’t have to be limited to the arguments presented above. Those are just the two of the most common perspectives I’ve been seeing.
