I just went to the Enhypen show in Tacoma and first of all, it was amazing.
I just want to bring up the Freebies: Free or Trade? Conversation.
This girl in line with me kept complaining about how no one knows if freebies are actually free or if they’re trade only. Now most people will absolutely give you freebies if you ask politely when you see them giving them out, RARELY do I EVER see anyone saying no, they’re trades only.
I, personally, don’t think it’s a big deal if people want to strictly trade freebies. I grew up around artists and I am an artist myself, people put literally hundreds of hours into making freebies. They’re using their own supplies, sometimes buying new supplies or expensive supplies. It’s just like any other form of art of course they want something in return, they’re just being kind enough to give away their craft for FREE or ideally, trade. And if you feel like you’re not creative enough or your art isn’t good enough that’s absolutely not true. The more technical artists will actually think your craft is really cute and they’d be proud you gave it an effort.
The girl in line with me also brought up that no one really does freebies anymore. First of all, this was at 5pm waiting outside for General Seating entry and I know A LOT of people give out their freebies pretty early in the day when they’re waiting for merch or VIP check in. So there were less being given out, getting to the venue early will help with this issue IMMENSELY.
But honestly they’re two sides of the same conversation. If people brought more freebies, whether they be pipe cleaner stick figures or little pieces of printer paper, people wouldn’t be so wary giving out their freebies. Plus, it is sad leaving your house with 200 freebies and getting none back.
If more people made freebies, even the tiniest thing that took just a few hours of work, then we wouldn’t be having this issue because we would ALL be trading.
And I understand if you don’t have the time to do something like this because that’s what it really eats up, your time. But if you didn’t have time to prepare even the smallest thing, don’t be EXPECTING to get a bunch of freebies and don’t complain about getting no freebies either. Take the few you are offered and next time try to bring a few yourself.

Some easy ideas for freebies for beginners:
– chop up albums you have duplicates of (literally just cut a small square out, a heart, a star, the body)
– give out their inclusions you don’t care about (stickers, bookmarks, small paper items you would never use or see again)
– pipe cleaners with taped or glued paper head (stick figures, butterflies, flowers, a heart, a circle)
– ribbon that’s the representative color for the group
– shrink-a-dink paper (acrylic paint pens or a small brush, cut them out)
– beaded bracelets/keychains
– tiny hair clips that are the representative color
– print out photocards
– tape small pieces of paper to a pokemon/magic/baseball card
– popsicle stick with glued paper head/body
