Some K-pop fans really need to use some common sense

I feel like K-pop fans often treat every opinion as if it’s coming from the same group of people, when that’s usually not the case.

For example, an idol might get body shamed for being overweight. After losing a lot of weight, some fans become genuinely concerned that they look unhealthy. Or an idol might get hate for always being the center of attention, then become much quieter, leading some fans to worry they’ve started shrinking themselves because of the backlash.

Then people say, “First they hated them for being fat, now they hate them for being thin,” or “First they hated them for being loud, now they hate them for being quiet.”

But those are usually two different groups of people.

The people who were toxic in the first place aren’t necessarily the same people expressing concern now. Not every comment is hate. Respectful concern isn’t the same as body-shaming or bullying.

It feels like the genuinely concerned fans often get accused of “not letting idols breathe,” while the people who were actually toxic are forgotten. Public figures will always be discussed, and as long as people are being respectful rather than harassing or insulting idols, not every opinion should automatically be dismissed as hate.
