I’m fully expecting the die-hard boy group stans to come for my throat, but oh well.
Firstly, I’m not saying bg’s are bad, I’m saying I have not seen a recent POPULAR domestic and international hit from a bg in months. (Apart from BTS and Cortis). Genuinely what boy groups have been consistent and/or emerged in popularity??
Comparatively, girl groups are running the game in 4th and 5th gen. I mean even NewJeans is still relevant and they haven’t been active in like a year or something. Now I’m not sure if this is just the content my algorithm is pushing towards me, but I haven’t seen popular bgs since like exo, and even straykids, txt ect.
Meanwhile the charts and social media are being run by groups like lesserafim, katseye (not technically K-pop yes ik), Aespa (and the Blackpink girls of course). Also, I’ve found all the tiktok hits from upcoming 5th gen groups are all girls! Think 404, magnetic and Rude!
I feel like this is coming from the western movements of the search for the next biggest female pop star, but I genuinely haven’t seen current boy groups reach attention like these new female groups are.
Again, IM NOT BASHING ANY BOYGROUPS. This is just something i’ve noticed. A stark difference to third gen and the beginning of 4th where I feel like there was so many more popular boy groups. Like man I remember in 2020-22 where you couldn’t go online without hearing anything by nct, straykids, Ateez ect.
