One Korean word changes everything: “괜찮아요” → “안 괜찮아요” | 100 Days of Deception

Sometimes the hardest answer to “Are you okay?” is an honest one.

A line from Episode 6 of 100 Days of Deception stayed with me:

“안 괜찮아요.”
“I’m not okay.”
— My translation

괜찮아요 (gwaenchanayo) means “I’m okay.” Adding 안 (an) makes it “I’m not okay.”

Such a small change, but saying it out loud can take courage.

In this scene, Ga-kyeong’s words made me think about how easily we say we’re fine because we don’t know where to begin. Sometimes we don’t need someone to solve everything. We just need to feel that we can answer honestly.

Of course, 괜찮아요 can also mean “It’s okay” or “No, thank you,” depending on the situation. That’s something I enjoy about Korean: familiar words can carry very different feelings.

Is there a simple Korean expression that has stayed with you—from a drama or everyday life? ^^
