It’s interesting how the narrative around IVE and NMIXX’s songs have really changed compared to release day

I see this too much in kpop where people celebrate or doom post really hard on a song’s release day. But then it’s not uncommon that the charting really changes as promotions happen.

Taking an example I saw a lot of discussion last week where NMIXX had initially charted quite high and IVE didn’t live up to initial expectations and fans were worried. There was a lot of celebration for NMIXX while people were being harsh on IVE and saying they were losing their touch and that this type of song doesn’t suit them. Well these narratives don’t seem to hold true anymore.

Current Melon chart positions:

Daily

6 IVE – Looks Can Kill

87 NMIXX – Birthday Wish

Weekly

36 IVE – Looks Can Kill

81 NMIXX – Birthday Wish

It’s true NMIXX had initial high charting which means there was anticipation and hype. But unfortunately the song couldn’t hold that momentum. While IVE had viral performance moments like Yujin’s superspeed clips which definitely brought attention to the song. But honestly it’s not uncommon with girl group songs that songs can really raise up the charts over time with more performances especially with trendy moments. That’s why I always wait for some time to pass to get a more clear sense on how songs are performing.
