KT introduces 10 GB Combo Internet

South Korea’s KT Corp. announced on Wednesday that it introduced Combo Internet technology to its network, enabling the provision of 10-gigabit Internet services using existing infrastructure.

This technology, an international standard set by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), allows for 10 gigabit (GB) internet service simply by adding a Combo Internet module to the existing infrastructure. Previously, additional equipment was needed to convert and integrate optical signals.

Compared to the widely used 1-gigabit service, the speed is up to 10 times faster. It’s more efficient because it consolidates multiple service lines into a single device, reducing power consumption.

KT plans to apply the Combo Internet in buildings where installing 10 GB of Internet is challenging.

The company also plans to develop customized services by analyzing customer Internet usage patterns.
