I was looking back to the past 1-2 years kpop concert trends. First of all, compared to 10-20 years ago, a lot more groups are doing world tours nowadays. It does not matter if it is a hall, arena, dome, stadium – but a world tour is a world tour of at least 20-30 dates.
Lots can sell from 50-300k average per tour these days. If a tour can reach >300k audience, I would consider it to be a great number already. >500k is a bonus. >1 million is a huge accomplishment as not many groups/idols can reach this number.
Most places covered for most tours will be – Korea, Japan, China/Taiwan/Macau/HK, SEA, US, Canada, LATAM, Europe and Australasia. So far India/Africa/Arab are still not covered. That said, Europe/Canada/LATAM/Europe/Australasia are still not fully covered by lots of groups compared to Korea (for obvious reason), Japan, US and SEA.
More interestingly, concert climate seems to see a few downtrending in past 1-2 years – lots of concerts are not selling >70% of its capacity, some dates cancelled, some dates tickets are given away for free/heavily discounted/buy1-free-1 promo last minute to fill up the venue.
That said, BTS comeback tour is not affected, sales are brisk and venue is filled. Similarly Korean and Japanese dates for lots of tour is also selling well.
What could be the reason?
Tour fatigue?
Too many tours to choose from?
Ticket pricing hitting crazy prices?
But why in certain instances certain dates like Korea and Japan are selling well compared to other venues?
Now that lots of groups are becoming million sellers – will there also be more stadium shows with >30k capacity?
I find kpop touring recently fascinating due to this phenomena – from crazy ticket pricing to big stadium concerts.
