ioi just finished their 2 day concert on korea last weekend (judging from clips it was a blast, their encore was like 5 rounds of EDM version of Pick me) so wanted to write a post about them. They still got couple concert stops so its still not over!
But the fact they came back with an album, and physical at that, is amazing. We got 6 amazing songs. Members participated writing and composing and directing! They also mentioned they were very involved with whole process, choosing fonts etc.
Got a week worth of music shows + one extra since there was so much demand. Oh also they also performed a b-side too!
They also had sooo many variety shows. And they still got couple lined up. They were popular and good at variety 10 years ago, so makes sense all these shows would love to have them. But my favorite ofc is the ot9 one from Somi’s youtube channel.
Also what would this post be without bit of chart glazing, they are currently on their 90th RAK, and they are almost at PAK (only missing youtube music for it). Like sure they were gp darlings but that was 10 years ago. And the first reaction for the song wasnt super positive on the korean side. But the song, lyrics and performance (their stages got really good views for a group without a dedicated fanbase) brought it to number 1. I never thought they would dominate charts this much.
Im not og 2016 fan but i got to explore ioi trough Somi, and over the years ive noticed how much the girls always mention each other, hang out with each other. And they have even mentioned how much closer this reunion brought all of them.
Also they didnt reunited just because is was 10th year anniversary, but they been wanting to do it multiple times and it fell trough.
Also even to me, an ioi fan, it gave me appreciation for lot of the girls since i dont really keep up with Kdramas, so there are some members that dont really pop up for me. Especially Nayoung and Sohye have went kind under the radar for me as they havent really been in spotlight. Also Yeonjung is so hilarious, she brought her energy to this reunion. Somi is my bias in ioi and i just love to see her surrounded with her adoring unnies + i love the hot girl aura she has been influencing the other girls (even though lot of the tiktok ideas were Yeonjung’s idea). Somi mentioned how much clarity this reunion has brought her and as her fan its been amazing to see.
And i love that the girls are quickly announcing stuff to capitalize the hype, Yoojung and Chungha announced their solo comebacks. Im especially so glad for Yoojung because i actually wasnt sure if she would ever have comeback. Somi has hinted comeback too, but no announcement yet, but she did get selected as MC for a beauty variety show.
Despite what some trolls that dont keep up with the members say, the girls have good careers (ioi coming together was funded by themselves so it wasnt for money). But i hope this reunion brings new opportunities especially for Nayoung and Sohye.
I could go on with so many things and say stuff about each member but i feel like this post is already way too long, but ofc last shout out to Chungha was advocating this to happen so heavily.
