After all the fuss about the song sounding like an old, untrendy trot track from the initial teasers, which I’ll admit it kind of did lol The way Somi delivers the chorus really does feel reminiscent of a Korean trot singer from the 70s. But now this retro styled slow jam, sung almost entirely in Korean, has climbed to #2 on the Melon charts just a week after release, only trailing behind CORTIS’ REDRED. What makes it even more impressive is that the group didn’t even sell 10k albums in their first week.
This kind of niche-styled song creating this much buzz right now is honestly very refreshing, and at this rate, it might not be long before they hit #1. Might be the most successful reunion project we’ve seen to date.
There’s also another really rare phenomenon happening on Melon right now. Every song, outside of Catch Catch, in the current Top 7 is an April or May release, which is pretty uncommon to see. Usually the charts are more mixed with older holdovers, but right now the recent releases are completely dominating the upper ranks. It really puts into perspective just how stacked the past couple of months have been in terms of releases.
Here’s how the Top 7 currently looks on Melon:
- CORTIS – REDRED (April 20th)
- I.O.I – Suddenly (May 19th)
- ILLIT – It’s Me (April 30th)
- AKMU – Paradise of Rumors (April 7th)
- AKMU – Joy, Sorrow, A Beautiful Heart (April 7th)
- YENA – Catch Catch (March 11th)
- NMIXX – Heavy Serenade (May 11th)
