I live in Gyeonggi-do, just outside Seoul, and this is how I like to see Seoul. Whenever I visit Seoul, I sometimes prefer to stay away from the busy tourist spots and simply walk along the Han River. Here are some of my favorite views around the river. ① Under Seogang Bridge One of my favorite ways to look at Seoul is from underneath its bridges. From here, the city feels surprisingly calm. ② Yeouido Water Light Stage When I come into Seoul from Gyeonggi-do, I sometimes skip the busy streets and head straight to the Han River. The view here feels completely different from the Seoul you usually see. ③ Yachts on the Han River You don’t have to go far to see this side of Seoul. Watching yachts pass by on the Han River almost makes the city feel like a vacation destination. ④ Looking toward Yanghwa Bridge Seoul looks different when you stop looking at it from the streets. The Han River gives you a much wider view of the city. ⑤ Looking toward Wonhyo Bridge One thing I love about the Han River is how every bridge creates a different view of Seoul. ⑥ Seoul from Seogang Bridge This might be an ordinary view for people who live in Seoul. But coming from Gyeonggi-do, I still find myself stopping to look at it. ⑦ The Han River from Seogang Bridge Sometimes you don’t need a famous tourist spot. Just standing on a bridge and watching the Han River is enough. ⑧ A quiet moment above the Han River Traffic, trains, the river, and the city moving around you. I like stopping for a moment and just watching Seoul go by. ⑨ Yanghwa Bridge at sunset This is when the Han River gets even more beautiful. The sunset slowly changes the color of Seoul. ⑩ Walking from National Assembly Station to Seogang Bridge One of my favorite things to do is simply walk through Seoul without a strict plan. On the way to the Han River, you get to see another side of the city. ⑪ Waiting for the fireworks The moment before the fireworks begin. The sunset, the Han River, the yachts, and the city lights slowly coming on. Sometimes, the wait is just as beautiful as the fireworks. If you’re visiting Seoul, I highly recommend taking some time to walk along the Han River instead of only visiting the famous tourist spots.
