I was having this discussion with my friend the other day, and we couldn’t really find a middle ground. My take on it is—I don’t think groups necessarily NEED to be family-level close. At the end of the day, they’re not put together by their company to become family, they’re put together to perform and make money.
Of course, when a group does have a strong bond and good chemistry, it’s really fun to watch and can make the experience of stanning them much more wonderful. An example could probably be GOT7. Their bond is INSANELY strong and is proven by the fact that they’re still together despite leaving JYPE. Watching them together is insanely fun and entertaining, and that reflects when they’re performing as well.
However, that being said, that type of bond can’t always be the case for every group out there. Especially the rookie groups and so on.
I guess my summed up opinion is: I don’t think idol groups NEED to be like family, as long as they’re able to get along decently and perform well as a team. And if they get along super well and treat each other like siblings, then that’s amazing. But it’s not the worst thing if they don’t.
What do you think?
