BTS Not Submitting Music in for The Grammys

I’m not the biggest fan of BTS but this is commendable and I’m happy they did it.

From the moment the Asian category was announced it’s been getting shat on, and rightfully so. It’s almost as if to say that Asian music won’t have a chance in these bigger categories so we’ll throw them a bone. A category that only includes Asian music, that not even all Asian countries can participate in; being added the same year the biggest Asian act in the world comes back from a long hiatus is so stupid and you can see right through it. Might as well have called it the Arirang Award.

Kpop has grown exponentially in the Western market over the past few years, and many groups have made their marks. Regardless of that, it’s hard to deny that BTS is the most popular. When the most popular Kpop act, and arguably the biggest Asian act, makes a highly awaited comeback it’s definitely big enough to compete with other big artists. Arirang wasn’t a good enough of an album to win an award like AOTY or SOTY (in my opinion), especially considering that artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Ariana have released really good tracks this year; but it can definitely compete.

BTS pulling out of a category that they were essentially guaranteed to win does take credibility away from the Grammys, even though they already don’t have much to begin with, and will spark a change for sure.

The only thing that might suck from this is that whatever act wins that Grammy will get berated by Armys until the end of time 😭😭

All in all it was a good decision, and I’m happy it happened.
