Baby Flower by tripleS aggressively climbs to #1 on Spotify Korea Daily Top 200

On June 24, tripleS’ Baby Flower debuted at #22 on Spotify Korea’s Daily Top 200, 23 days after its release. A day later, it dropped to #84. Then, in the latest update, it skyrocketed all the way to #1 with a reported 700%+ increase in streams, recording the 7th highest daily streaming peak in Spotify Korea history.

Meanwhile, on Melon, the song fell out of the Top 1000 just one week after release and hasn’t managed to re-enter since June 9. It’s hard not to raise an eyebrow at this kind of chart movement. The song randomly enters Spotify Korea’s Daily Top 200 more than three weeks after release and lands as high as #22. Then it fell to #84 the very next day, only to surge to #1 one day later. That’s an extremely unusual trajectory.

We’ve seen similar situations before. The most recent example would be I-dle’s Crow which also experienced a sudden jump to the top of the chart before falling just as dramatically shortly afterward. Five days later, it had already dropped out of Spotify’s Top 200 entirely.

With patterns this extreme, it’s difficult to view them as organic rises in popularity. When a song shows minimal momentum for weeks and then suddenly posting one of the biggest streaming days in the platform’s history, all without any corresponding movement on other major domestic charts, there will be skepticism (at least for me).

To me, this highlights one of Spotify’s biggest weaknesses. There’s simply way too much room for artificial manipulation, and any corrections often come far too late to matter. By then the headlines have already been written, the records have already been celebrated, and the social media posts have already gone viral.

Am I being overly skeptical here? Is there some legitimate trigger or external factor that I’m missing that would explain a song suddenly exploding on the charts like this?
