A reveiw of DIVE into IVE : I expected more from an almost 5 year old group

To start I am not a huge DIVE but I like IVE’s music and I love to attend Kpop concerts (I go to one almost every week). Even for groups that I am not a huge fan of I rarely leave the shows feeling disappointed and often end up becoming a fan because of the show. But for yesterday’s DIVE into IVE I just found the whole event lackluster and not super enjoyable. If it hadn’t been at Inspire Arena I seriously considered leaving about halfway through the show. A lot of my issues weren’t specifically with girls but with how the event was run and structured.

IVE has a lot of child fans more then I was expecting. It was actually really cute to see of the elementary students coming with their parents to see the show. The problem was I was sat with one group of unsupervised middle school girls right next to me and another two rows behind me and they would not stop screaming and talking. I understand and even like it when the crowd is enthusiastic and singing along but these girls were constantly screaming when noone else was and when the members were talking. It was to the point that I couldn’t hear half of what the members were saying and I couldnt hear portions of the songs because neither group would not stop screaming and talking. People in the area were shushing them and asking them to be quieter but neither group would stop or keep the volume down.

The stage setup was also disappointing. The stage was a 360 which meant that their backs were always facing a section of the crowd. I probably spent half the show watching their backs because of where my seat was. For my favorite song IVE was facing performing the opposite direction so I was watching either their faces (not even the whole body so I could see the choreo) on the screen or their backs. I understand why it was a 360 stage but it was disappointing how much time I spent watching their backs unable to see all the members facial expressions and dancing.

The actual show itself was lackluster. It was a fancon which means fewer performances but more games/skits. Normally I love this setup because it really gives members a chance to shine and show off their personalities and skills but for IVE it felt like half the challenges that they did were just them posing for the audience (like one “game” was just them winking at the audience, another was them hugging and posing for the audience). There weren’t really an moments that stood out to me it felt more like a photo session then a challenge/game section.

Outside of the challenges their actual performance was disappointing. IVE is not known for their complex or challenging choreography but seeing them dance both in their dance challenges and for their actual performances with backup dancers it was clear that their dancing skills were not on the same level as their back up dancers or most other idol groups. During multiple performances it felt like their backup dancers outshined them in terms of dance.

All in all the concert felt less like a fancon and more like a photo-op with a couple of songs thrown in.
