I’d like to hear a Korean perspective on a situation I’m unsure about

Hi everyone. I’d like to hear some honest opinions from people who live here.

I got to know a man who initially seemed friendly and helpful. Over time, though, I started feeling uncomfortable because he would repeatedly approach me and join me when I was just spending time with my friend, even when we hadn’t invited him, and although nothing bad happened, I felt uneasy about him.

Although he initially seemed friendly, several situations over time have made me increasingly uncomfortable around him. It’s not just one isolated incident, but a combination of things, including the way he repeatedly joins us without prior arrangements, some interactions that I found unusual, and the fact that he continues reaching out and suggesting that we meet even after we’ve grown distant. As these situations have accumulated, I’ve started feeling anxious around him and avoiding contact. I don’t know whether his behavior is simply a friendly gesture or whether my concerns are justified, which is why I’d appreciate an outside perspective.

I’ve also unexpectedly run into him more than once in places I go often but where I genuinely never saw him before, which has made me wonder whether these encounters are just coincidences or whether he’s making an effort to see us.

Would you interpret it as genuine friendliness? Could this simply be a cultural difference or a way some older Korean people show kindness toward foreigners?
