IVE was legitimately my ult group in terms of musical groups or just music as a whole as they clearly had an amazing run with their first 4 hits and it was apparent to so many other people as well which is why they’re included at the top of 4th Gen groups as a whole.
During Eleven are, it was probably rushed due to izone which is why, apart from Liz and Yujin sometimes, their vocals were truly bad while performances were truly half-assed or never given their all, apart from Yujin and maybe Gauel on a good day. Sure they had moments where they were actually good but consistency was not clear with them all individually.
Then things changed for their first studio album, not only did they actually perform head on, but also had shown actually CLEAR improvement in terms of both vocals and performances by actually hitting the notes for once instead of just half-assing it and performing fully with no misses. This was shown with all the members (except Rei but she was on hiatus for a long time), but it was something we continued to see during their I’VE MINE era, ESPECIALLY in terms of vocals as they even let Gaeul showcase more vocally demanding parts despite her being the weakest in terms of vocals in the group and that made me truly respect them all as a group and what they were selling as a product.
While these improvements were still clear during their IVE switch era, there were noticeably more times where they would miss notes or just skip singing all together if the backing track was loud enough to block them out. (If I remember correctly, to this day Liz & Yujin have been strict on showing off their true live vocals after their first studio album era and it’s clear in every performance.) Things were a bit more hit or miss in terms of performance or vocal wise during their empathy era but still less noticeable honestly for me personally.
Then IVE Secret happened and this is where I think there was a clear nosedive in terms of everything honestly. Not only was there no standout in the album, but the vocals and performances truly were nothing but bare and basic if I’m being honest. And this regression has continued till now and dare I say they have gone back to how they were during their debut era if not worse. I don’t want to come off as not a fan since I truly love and adore this group and their music as a whole as they were one of the few ever to actually show clear improvement. However it’s clear that that’s not as common currently and I want them all to do better, I’m aware that Starship may not be the best company to work with especially considering they are seemingly rushing things now due to their contracts ending soon but I truly do not care about any of those problems.
IVE is a KPOP group at the end of the day so in my personal opinion I believe they should be treated for what product they are selling which is live AND good vocals, good performances and actually pretend like you wanna be there on tour. This honestly shouldn’t be too much to ask for since not only have they ALL proven that they are capable of doing so previously, but it should be the standard in kpop and I expect groups to be better no matter what, especially if your ticket prices are through the roof. Also I’m aware that both dancing and singing stable is NOT easy, however that is what they were or should’ve been trained for then instead of doing the absolute bare minimum especially if I’m paying money to buy their albums.
I am a pretty strict fan so if this came off as too harsh, I do apologize for this. It just upsets me that with their all their recent performances, they have not shown any improvements, stellar performances or GOOD live vocals, (yes they may sing live but do they also sound good, great or even competent when singing live?). We have seen they’re capable of doing so, I just need them to basically stay at that level, or improve more so, I do not care how since it’s not my responsibility, I just need to see it happen again since again, they have done it before for a LONG period of time. If they need rest, a break or anything to get them back up in full shape, they can take it since I know how disgusting these companies can be, I just want them all to improve and stay that way till thier disbandment or if one of them chooses to leave as I truly do want to see a fully live and great performance from all of them or make Starship do better since if KiiiKiii is supposed to be their successor, I need them and all their groups to be GREAT in terms of vocals, raps and performances.
