This is just a few things I have noticed. It’s nothing new.
With the rise of Social Media and the increasing popularity of Kpop the standards are abnormally high.
I know Kpop has always had incredibly good-looking idols ,especially female idols, but I feel like the past ~4 Years it has become the standard and not the exception.
– Everyone wears enlarging contact lenses now
– Almost Everyone wears Extensions
– Some Idols wear very light Foundation to appear naturally pale
– On SNS as well as on TV Shows there is always a brightening Filter on everyone
– I don’t want to be overly dramatic but I think everyone had plastic surgery, usually a nose job and filler somewhere
– All of this on top of everything else that is already known.
I think back in the 3rd Generation the expectations weren’t as high as they are now.
*(I’m comparing it to that time cause that is when i joined the Kpop fandom space)*
I think the Industry is warping the publics perception of what a young, beautiful, talented person is supposed to look like, and this is as extreme as it can get, right?
I know this can’t all be blamed on the Industry because well, the kpop industry doesn’t exist in a vacuum, but wow, what a time to be alive. Even in Kpop.
*(SNS, phones in general, the economy & state of the world, importance of looks in asian cultures are all contributing factors)*
