Suing Youtubers might not be a smart move for agencies

It’s bizarre to think that there are so many defamation lawsuits in kpop space. A multi-millions company suing youtubers and X accounts. We all agree that those youtubers are wicked, but I don’t think suing them is making things any better for the companies or the groups either. Unless they cross the line by blackmailing, doxxing, or engaging in other actions that harm the privacy and safety of idols in real life, then companies have every right to take them to court. If they talk crap and stir up negativity, there’s probably a better way to fight it. If you look at ILLIT and all the controversies surrounding them in 2024, yet Almond Chocolate was a hit when it was released. Why? Because it’s a good song, simple as that. What I’m trying to say is that if you’re making good music, people will listen to you and eventually forget all the controversies you got into. Not to mention that 99% of casual listeners probably aren’t even aware of those channels or all the drama. They just want good music.

Lawsuit is expensive indeed. It would be wiser if they used their resources to hire better songwriters and producers and focused on making great music. When you drop banger after banger, more and more people will listen to you and eventually forget whatever bad stuff those youtubers said about you. But if you’re blowing money on lawyers and dragging every social media account that throws shit at you into court, which could take years, every hearing will become a headline, and it will keep reminding people again and again. If we look outside the kpop scene, there are tons of videos on youtube and posts on X bad mouthing the Chili Peppers frontman and the band. Some of which contain false accusations, yet no single lawsuit from Warner. When you build a strong catalog of great music, you’ll gain a strong fanbase and loyal listeners too. All the negativity doesn’t seem to matter anymore.

What about protecting the idols? Idols are products that represent companies. Suing those youtubers is more about companies protecting their own image. If the company wants to protect their idols, they could invest more in hiring personal psychologists who can actually help them, and personalize their phone algorithms so they are less exposed to negativity. Even if you could take down any channels that stir up negativity, another one will keep popping up and doing the same thing over and over. So, I think it’s better to build a strong ship for the storm instead of asking the storm to go away.
